The Challenge: Education in Underserved Communities
In many rural areas, children face overwhelming obstacles that hinder their educational progress. According to UNESCO, approximately 30 million children in sub-Saharan Africa are out of school. Moreso, students who do attend classes often receive substandard education due to a lack of resources, trained teachers, and basic infrastructure. This educational gap leaves many students struggling with literacy. All these challenges may consequently hinder their overall academic performance and future opportunities in a fast-paced, digitally driven world.
Therefore, PlungeSmile’s Literacy Class initiative was designed to help students overcome challenges in reading, writing, comprehension and expression. Understanding the critical need for literacy education, our program is dedicated to providing these young learners with the skills they need to thrive academically, opening doors for future opportunities.
To enhance the impact of the Literacy Class Program, PlungeSmile have trained and onboarded community-based volunteers. These passionate individuals work alongside our locally recruited educators to provide extra lessons and personalized attention to students who need it most.
